Delos: A Visit to the Island of Apollo and Light

When traveling to Mykonos, you will be dazed by the amazing landscapes and the vibrant entertainment of the island. But equally thrilling is a visit to Delos, the small islet that boasts rich historic and cultural value. It is a unique experience to visit Delos, located amidst the Cycladic archipelago and in short distance from Mykonos.
Delos is an inhabited island and has been characterized as UNESCO World Heritage Site. On the island, you will find a variety of archaeological sights. Among them, the Terrace of the Lions and the Temple of the Delians, the Minoan Fountain and the House of the Naxians. It is worth pointing out the sacred nature of the island ever since antiquity. Greeks used it as a center for the Delian League, an alliance of Greek city-states against common enemies.
The island has been dedicated to God Apollo. In order to purify its essence, it has been decided that nobody is born or dies on the island. This is an impressive fact, highlighting the singular character of Delos. The ongoing excavations have revealed a true wealth of exhibits from major religious events. As you wander through the specially created paths, you will see a magnetizing site. Most of the findings are on display at the Museum.
There are daily boats taking you to Delos from Mykonos. You may ask for a guided tour, so that you find out all the details about the island. Although you cannot stay there overnight, you can enjoy your drink or a light snack at the canteen. Just remember to take sunglasses, a hat and sunscreen with you. Wear light clothes and comfortable shoes.
Discover the island of Apollo and become a part of history!
